Joe LaPaglia
Joe was hired at Local One in February of 1993 as a Membership Servicing Representative. Local One prides itself on super servicing our members. Spending time every week in the breakrooms talking to members, answering questions, and keeping member data up to date was a big part of the duties of an MSR. Joe’s territory was Syracuse in the beginning but then was assigned to multiple areas across NYS as far north as Adirondacks to the southern tier as well as Erie pa when necessary.
He later worked as a Union Organizer, on several campaigns just to name a few, Wake- up Walmart, Price Chopper Warehouse in Albany. Occasionally, Local one would be requested to help other UFCW sister locals from time to time. Joe was assigned to an 8-week campaign in 1998 in Los Angeles to fight PROP 226 which would require employers and labor unions to obtain a worker’s permission each year before withholding wages or union dues for political purposes--faring badly. Proposition 226 was a “thinly veiled attempt to silence the worker’s voice.” Its defeat was a hard blow to everyone who worked on this campaign but only fueled the fire to keep fighting.
Currently working as Collective Bargaining Director, Joe negotiates many Collective Bargaining Agreements with each union member in mind in every industry that we represent. Joe also served on The Syracuse, Albany, and Utica Labor Councils. Outside of work Joe enjoys coaching baseball, fan of the NY Yankees, and watching his youngest son, Vincenzo play youth hockey. Joe lives in Utica with his wife Nicole and son Vincenzo while his oldest son Joseph is a graduate of Buffalo University and is currently working at Wolf Speed as an engineer.
