Today, the Mohawk Valley will begin Phase One of reopening in accordance with directives from the New York State government. In this phase, the Construction; Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing, and Hunting; Retail (limited to curbside/in-store pickup or drop off); Manufacturing; and Wholesale Trade industries will be allowed to reopen.
It was announced earlier this week that Mohawk Valley had met all seven of the criteria put forward by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. The Mohawk Valley Regional Control Room—a state committee made up of local leaders—will monitor the reopening process.
The Central New York Labor Council, as the leading voice for labor in Oneida and Herkimer Counties, has consistently advocated for further protections for frontline and healthcare workers.
Samantha DeRiso, labor representative for the Mohawk Valley Regional Control room and president of the Central New York Labor Council, is available to comment.
She can be reached at president@cnylaborcouncil.org or 315-533-2148.
