(Utica, NY) — The recent news of the Remington Outdoor Company’s bankruptcy is a significant blow to the Mohawk Valley. However, we cannot stand by and remain silent as the UMWA 717 members formerly employed by old Remington feel the brunt of this hardship.
The Central New York Labor Council has adopted a resolution demanding fairness for former Remington workers, families, and communities. The resolution acknowledges that Remington Arms has refused to compensate terminated employees with the severance and accrued vacation pay it is contractually obligated to pay out and demands that these benefits be paid in full to formerly employed Remington workers.
The resolution also states the Labor Council’s intent to forward relevant information and demands to all local representatives in the Mohawk Valley. “For generations, the hardworking men and women of the Remington Arms facility have served as key contributors to the local economy and culture of our region,” said Samantha DeRiso, president of the CNY Labor Council. “It is absolutely essential that our elected officials view this matter as a top priority, and it is unacceptable that Remington management refuses to treat these workers with respect and dignity.”
