(Utica, NY) — On Thursday, November 19, the Central New York Labor Council and its affiliates gave away 250 turkeys and other Thanksgiving food items to UMWA Local 717 members and their families in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Volunteers from the Labor Council distributed the food and supplies to former Remington employees at 6 Central Plaza in Ilion on Thursday afternoon. The Council and its affiliates recognize the need, now more than ever, for the community to support the recently terminated workers from Old Remington.

“The Labor Council will continue to push for the fulfilment of contractually obligated severance and vacation pay benefits that Remington management refuses to distribute to terminated workers,” said Samantha DeRiso, president of the CNY Labor Council. “In the meantime, we can all pitch in to make the holidays a bit brighter for our UMWA Local 717 brothers and sisters.”

The CNY Labor Council will continue its efforts to support former Remington employees through a GoFundMe campaign soliciting donations for UMWA workers and their families in preparation for the winter holidays. Union members and the general public are welcome to contribute to the campaign using this link
